Part 6: I've overclocked my Blue & White G3, now what?

Congratulations! The operation was a success! However, your G3 still needs to stay in observation for about 5 to 7 days. An important thing to keep an eye on is the CPU's temperature. To do that use the G3/G4 Cache Profiler by PowerLogix. This utility will give you all sorts of information on your CPU, your cache and your system bus. Try to keep your CPU's temperature in between 16°C and 29°C. Also, keep in mind that the temperature change is very dramatic from when the G3's case is open as opposed to closed. The G3 was manufactured so that the fan inside the computer's case would keep the CPU cool so that it wouldn't overheat. By opening the case and leaving it open for long periods of time, the heatsink is doing all the work by itself...and it's just way to much for one tiny heatsink to handle. I overclocked my CPU from 400MHz to 450MHz. I found that the temperature only changed 1 or 2 degrees from when it was running at 400MHz. This is normal though. If the CPU is running faster, it means it's working harder, which means its going to get hotter. When I left the case open for about 30 minutes, the temperature rose from 15°C to an astonishing 36°C. That is proof that you have to keep the case closed if you don't want to burn out your CPU. I'd like to thank you for coming to my site and using the information I worked hard on. Please send me your stories about how everything turned out. I hope everything went perfectly to plan!
